Our Results: Ending Homelessness

Steps Toward Stability.

Last year, Valley of the Sun United Way-supported agencies provided 746,080 days of shelter to nearly 15,000 individuals. While homeless individuals can be found throughout the Valley, most of the support services available to them are concentrated in and around the downtown Phoenix area. Now, with the support of area cities, nonprofit organizations, faith-based communities and volunteers, Valley of the Sun United Way has launched a monthly event known as Project Homeless Connect to reach out to homeless individuals and families.

Project Homeless Connect is a mobile event that rotates throughout the Valley to serve disparate and fringe homeless populations, while generating greater community awareness and public support for the challenges surrounding homelessness. By bringing together more than 20 local and state agencies to provide immediate access to services in a warm and welcoming environment, each Connect event serves as a gateway to secure critical services such as shelter, public benefits and wellness checks, as well as mental health and substance abuse treatment for homeless people across the Valley. Over 100 volunteers per event act as guides and provide support as each individual meets with providers offering needed services.
