VITA Roles
TAX PREPARER
This individual is responsible for providing free tax preparation services to low/moderate income tax payers during the tax season (late January – April 14) at a VITA location.
• Complete and be certified in the IRS tax law and tax software training
• Prepare basic 1040 and 1040-EZ returns and related schedules
• Ensure all allowable tax credits for which a taxpayer is eligible are claimed
• Answer tax related questions
SITE SCREENER
This individual interviews taxpayers to determine eligibility and the level of assistance needed if qualified.
• Complete and be certified in the IRS tax law and tax software training
• Ensure that taxpayers have the necessary information and documentation to complete a tax return, including picture IDs for taxpayer and spouse and social security cards for everyone who will be claimed on the tax return
• Mark intake sheet with appropriate level of tax return preparation
SITE GREETER
This individual is responsible for greeting and performing the initial screening of all taxpayers.
• Complete Greeter/Screener training
• Welcome taxpayers to site and sign them in
• Provide taxpayers with intake and survey forms to complete
• Monitor site traffic to ensure all taxpayers checking in receive assistance
