Our Results: Increasing Financial Stability

Moving Valley Families and Individuals Out of Poverty.

In 2008, Valley of the Sun United Way-supported agencies assisted 2,312 individuals in obtaining employment and another 3,126 individuals by increasing their incomes through the support of the Helping the Working Poor Fund. The Helping the Working Poor Fund supports programs designed to enhance the quality of life for families in Maricopa County.

Providing a comprehensive delivery of support services, these programs include childcare, transportation, food, shelter, and job training and placement. The goal of the fund is to address systemic issues associated with poverty, resulting in a significant positive impact for working-poor individuals and their families. Through this approach, individuals can then focus on improving job skills to gain and maintain employment, resulting in greater long-term financial stability for Arizona families.

You can help Valley of the Sun United Way achieve this goal – and increase the number of Arizona families living stable, healthy lives. Find out how you can get involved with our volunteer program, or start giving today.
