Tempe Pilot Project

On any given night, thousands of individuals and families experience homelessness in Maricopa County.

The City of Tempe has been a long-time supporter of innovative strategies that provide community-wide solutions to issues such as homelessness. To that end, city leaders are providing a rent subsidy for 35 individuals in Tempe for use as a permanent, affordable environment for chronically homeless individuals in the area. Additionally, VSUW is working with the Arizona Department of Health Services and Tempe First Methodist church – Urban Outreach to provide necessary support services for the individuals selected to receive the housing to help them maintain self-sufficiency. Key support service areas will include mental health, physical health, substance use recovery, employment skill development, independent living skills and support system development.

This pilot project is a great example of our ability to build partnerships with the right people, organizations and businesses from all across the community who bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done.
