History: The Adopt-a-Pool-Fence Program was created by the United Phoenix

Fire Fighters Association (UPFF) in 2003 to prevent child drownings in

Maricopa County by providing families in need with a protective barrier to keep

their children safe. Valley of the Sun United Way now partners with the UPFF

to operate the program, which has brought more than 650 donated pool fences

to families in need throughout Maricopa County.

The Glendale pool fence walk was made possible by injury prevention grants

awarded to Valley of the Sun United Way by First Things First (FTF). This

unique partnership reflects FTF and VSUW’s mutual commitment to ensure

children are healthy and ready to succeed when they enter school.
