  On Saturday, May 12, 4,500 mail carriers throughout the Valley will fill their mail trucks to benefit Stamp Out Hunger, a national food collection effort celebrating its 20th year. Last year, the program collected about 900,000 pounds of food in Maricopa County.

  Phoenix starts building homeless housing

  The City of Phoenix, Valley of the Sun United Way, Native American Connections, and other partners, broke ground on Encanto Pointe, a 54-unit Permanent Supportive Housing complex that will serve chronically homeless individuals in central Phoenix.

  The Project Connect gathering put on by the Valley of the Sun United Way at North Hills Church in North Phoenix connected homeless individuals and those at risk of homelessness to agencies that helped them obtain driver's licenses, employment opportunities, wellness checks, counseling, food, clothing, haircuts, affordable housing and other vital services.
