This tax season Valley of the Sun United Way and partners assisted about 830 financially-strapped taxpayers in claiming more than $1 million in tax refunds via eight Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites in the West Valley.

On Saturday, May 12, 4,500 mail carriers throughout the Valley will fill their mail trucks to benefit Stamp Out Hunger, a national food collection effort celebrating its 20th year. Last year, the program collected about 900,000 pounds of food in Maricopa County.

At Project Connect in Avondale more than 30 health and human service organizations gathered under one roof  to help the West Valley's homeless.
