Position Summary: Build and deepen relationships with individuals by inspiring and inviting them to take an active role with Valley of the Sun United Way (VSUW) through a variety of special events. Lead the planning and production of organizational events. Partner with other VSUW disciplines such as marketing and community impact develop and execute events that help the organization meet its strategic objectives. Enhance the positive image of Valley of the Sun United Way among its various audiences and consistently communicate the organization’s impact in the community.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Event/Project Management – manage the planning and production of organizational events from inception to completion in a manner that meets or exceeds strategic objectives. Events vary to meet organization objectives targeting audiences such as donors, elected officials, non-profit partners, volunteers, staff, Board of Directors and/or the community at large.
• Engagement Calendar – Develop and maintain an organization-wide calendar of engagement opportunities
• Collaboration – work closely with staff from other departments to plan events and prepare associated materials
• Vendors – establish working relationships with area vendors and event venues including maintaining a vendor/venue database that enables the organization to secure quality services while maximizing limited resources
• Event Content – Work in conjunction with other VSUW staff and at times outside partners on the creation of event goals, themes, agendas, scripts, etc.
• Communications – partner with Marketing, IT, and at times outside partners to develop invitations, RSVP processes, reminder outreach and post-event thank-you communications
• Desktop Publishing – assist in the production of flyers, invitations and other in-house collateral materials related to organizational events
• Budget –ensure events/projects are completed within budget
• Other duties as assigned – perform additional task as needed to support departmental objectives

• Excellent computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Products. Knowledge of website content management tools, Exact Target and Microsoft CRM is preferred

• Strong project management skills and an attention to detail, accuracy and quality
• Ability to initiate & follow up on projects with minimal supervision
• People oriented and a strong team player
• Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
Other Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Non-profit management, business or related field.
• Experience: 5+ years relevant experience including proven success in managing organizational and volunteer events; appropriate internships preferred (the right combination of education and/or relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of degree)
• Other: Valid Arizona driver’s license, proof of auto insurance coverage, daily access to personal vehicle
• Ability to work hours outside the 8:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. workday
